US carrier Patriot Mobile has experienced a data breach involving subscribers’ personal information, including names, email addresses, home zip codes and account PINs, according to TechCrunch.
Patriot Mobile, which reportedly has less than 100,000 subscriberscalls itself “America’s only Christian conservative wireless provider, and our mission is to passionately defend our constitutional rights and God-given freedoms while glorifying God.”
On its website, the carrier displays photos of former Fox News anchor Glenn Beck and former Trump administration officials Sebastian Gorka and Steve Bannon. The company recently started spending hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of conservative and pro-Christian candidates and demands in Texas.
A hacker claiming responsibility for the breach provided TechCrunch with a sample of data stolen from Patriot Mobile. TechCrunch has verified that the data sample contains authentic customer data, in part because an apparent bug on Patriot Mobile’s public website also leaked some of the same personal information.
A representative for Patriot Mobile did not respond to a request for comment from TechCrunch.
Patriot Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), meaning the company does not own its network infrastructure, but leases access from AT&T and T-Mobile.
News of the Patriot Mobile data breach comes a month after AT&T, the nation’s largest mobile carrier, confirmed a major theft of customer personal information and account information several years ago. As a consequence of that breach, AT&T reset the passwords of millions of customer accounts after TechCrunch informed the company that the leaked data contained encrypted passwords that were easy to crack and could be used to hack into customer accounts.
