Snap has revealed the second version of its Snap OS, the software that supplies its AR glasses known as Snap Spectacles. The update includes a new browser, webxr support and much more. The launch comes as the company started fifth generation glasses for developers last year and plans to launch a consumer version at 2026.
Liberation also comes right in front of Meta’s Connect Conference this week, where the company is expected to reveal its latest updates to smart glasses, AI and other technology.
Snap OS 2.0 introduces a faster browser that is easier to use, the company says. SNAP has optimized page loading speed and power use to allow users to navigate quickly.
There is also a new home screen with widgets and bookmarks, along with an up -to -date toolbar that allows users to type or speak a website URL, browse the history and refresh the page. In addition, users can now change the size of Windows as in a laptop.
Snap notes that the browser now supports WebxR, allowing users to access augmented reality experiences directly from any WebXR website.
In addition, there is a new projection lens that spatates the content in the real world. Now users can do things like washing dishes while watching videos from their favorite creators.
“The orientation of the portrait of our glasses’s field of vision is the perfect application for vertical video, allowing you to enjoy content without ever having to look down on your phone,” Snap explained to the a blog post. “Easily anchored the spotlight in one place, or follow you as you move.”

In addition, the snap facilitates recovery and shares your favorite memories with the new gallery lens that allows you to see your glasses capturing in an interactive layout. You can move through a carousel of your videos and organize your favorites before sending them to a friend or publish your story.
There is also a new travel mode that stabilizes the AR content and tracking systems, while you are on the go, such as a car or plane.
