Sweden-based caller ID app Truecaller said on Tuesday that it has reached the milestone of 500 million monthly active users on its platform. The company said it also crossed the 150 million user mark outside India, its biggest market with over 350 million monthly users.
The company said it added 50 million users by 2025, and its user base has doubled in the past five years. As of April 2025, Truecaller said it had more than 450 million users. The company also noted that more than 4 million people subscribe to its paid plans.
“More and more people need help navigating spam, scams and spam every day,” said Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala. “Reaching 500 million users shows the scale of this need and the trust people place in Truecaller to make communication safer.”
“Our commitment remains focused on continually enhancing Truecaller with smarter technology and new features that protect users before, during and after every call or message. Ultimately, our goal is to build a safer, more trusted communication ecosystem for everyone. We now have our sights set on the next milestone: 1 billion users,” he added.
Truecaller has been trying to expand its services beyond caller ID in recent years. The company recently rolled out a feature that would allow a person to become an administrator and end calls on behalf of their family group users to avoid fraud. The company is also experimenting with using artificial intelligence to display and answer calls.
Truecaller told TechCrunch last month that it is also testing the use of artificial intelligence to automatically monitor disconnected calls when it detects certain words associated with scams, such as “digital arrest” — a tactic in which criminals impersonate police officers to extract information or money from call recipients.
In India, the company faces challenges from the country Display caller name (CNAP), which displays the caller’s name as registered in their telephone networks.
