According to the Washington Post, a Waltz assistant used the consumer version of Gmail, which has not been cleared of government use, to discuss “extremely technical talks with colleagues in other government services concerning sensitive military positions and powerful weapon systems related to a continuing conflict.
As for the national security adviser himself, Waltz had “less sensitive but potentially exploitable information” sent to his personal Gmail account, such as timetables and work documents, officials said.
