Waymo said on Wednesday that it would offer a Robot Commercial Service in London in 2026, marking the second international expansion of the alphabet after Tokyo.
The announcement follows weeks of speculation powered by some London -based jobs. Waymo already has links with the United Kingdom: in 2019, the company acquired a latent logic, a United Kingdom launch launched by the Department of Informatics of the University of Oxford that uses a form of mechanical learning called imitation learning to make self-driving. Waymo started a mechanical hub in Oxford as part of the acquisition.
In a blog suspension, Waymo said that Jaguar I-Pace-Pace-Electric Vehicles-Own Self-Leading Technology-They Start to Driving London’s public roads In the following weeks. Waymo will start with people’s safety drivers behind the wheel before starting the driver without a driver and eventually invites the public to spoil his robbery, a strategy he has used in other commercial markets such as Phoenix and San Francisco.
Waymo would not give further details on when to remove the human safety driver or the size of the test fleet. Waymo spokeswoman Ethan Teicher confirmed that the company intends to take advantage of a self-riding car for public riders next year.
When Robotaxi starts in 2026 it will depend on the UK government to complete the approval process for these activities.
Waymo has increasingly increased its partners to share the load of the operation of a robot service and also plans to use Moove, which is already managing the AVS in Phoenix, to handle fleet companies in London.
In Austin and Atlanta, Uber’s partner divides the responsibilities of ownership and operation of a fleet without a driver, handling the charging, maintenance and cleaning of AVS and managing the robot access through its application. Meanwhile, Waymo is monitoring technology and autonomous businesses, including road aid and certain aspects of Rider support.
