X (formerly Twitter) started showing titles at the bottom of link preview cards again on Tuesday using a small font. However, hours later the company appears to have pulled the new format.
Multiple users and publications reported that they could see titles in link cards on the web. They also noted that some titles were cut due to length limits.
Musk first talked about removing headers from URL preview cards in August for “improved aesthetics.” In October, the social network implemented the change. Many publications had to change the way they published stories on X to accommodate the removal of headlines.
In November, Musk said X would start showing titles on link cards at the top of the image again “in an upcoming release” without specifying a timeline.
Since there has been no official announcement from the company, it’s unclear why the Elon Musk-owned network pulled the new headline-show format. As the layout released on Tuesday showed the title at the bottom of the image, it could be possible that it could be changed to match the version that Musk had promised.
These changes were not visible in X’s iOS app. Meanwhile, the Android app still shows link previews in the old style before Musk implemented heading removal, so people using the Android app can see the heading below the image on the preview card.
