YouTube announced Thursday that creators whose channels were previously terminated would be able to request new accounts.
“We know that many terminated creators deserve a second chance – YouTube has evolved and changed over the last 20 years and we have had our share of a second chance of doing things right with our community,” YouTube writes in a blog post.
This change in politics, which youtube calls a “pilot”, has not come out of nowhere. Mr. Jim Jordan (R-Oh) had undervalued The parent company of YouTube, Alphabet, to investigate whether the Biden-Harris administration had “forced or cooperated” the platforms in speech censorship. Last month, Alphabet’s legal adviser Daniel F. Donovan wrote in a letter To develop Jordan that the company would allow some terminated creators to return.
While YouTube does not explicitly refer to Covid-19’s integrity policies or electoral integrity in its blog position, Alphabet’s letter makes it clear that these policies are top.
“Reflecting the company’s commitment to free expression, YouTube will offer an opportunity for all creators to return to the platform if the company terminates their channels for repeated violations of Covid-19 policies and elections that no longer apply,” says Alphabet’s letter. “YouTube appreciates conservative voices on its platform and recognizes that these creators have extensive range and play an important role in the speech of the citizen.”
At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, platforms such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter took action to prevent the spread of medical misinformation and vaccines.
At that time, YouTube did not ban content indicating that vaccines can cause cancer, false claim that is is not supported with scientific research. The following year, these platforms also took action against accounts that believed that they were inciting violence after the January 6 riots, including President Donald Trump’s account.

These policies have been interrupted since then, but the creators ended in accordance with these rules have remained able to upload YouTube videos.
TechCrunch asked YouTube if this pilot would specifically focus on creators who were terminated on the basis of COVID-19 policies and electoral integrity. We did not receive an answer before posting.
“We will consider various factors in evaluating applications for new channels, such as whether the creator has committed particularly serious or persistent violations of Community directives or conditions of service or if the creator’s activity or off -platform hurts or may continue to harm the YouTube community, such as the YouTube community, her blog.
YouTube also said that creators ended for copyright violations would not be allowed to request a new channel.
Creators must wait a year after ending their channel before they are eligible to apply for a new channel. However, they can still appeal to end during the delay of the year if they believe that the YouTube decision was unfair.
If a creator is restored, he will start from scratch instead of recovering access to their old account. However, they can still apply to the YouTube partners’ program as soon as they are eligible to do so, which allows them to share advertising revenue with YouTube.
