IBM’s technology and giant were not immune in the Ministry of Government’s cuts (Doge).

IBM had 15 of its federal contracts canceled due to Doge -related cuts in the first quarter of 2025, according to the report from Reuters and Parachute. These cuts amount to $ 100 million in future payments per Bloomberg. Federal contracts represent between 5% and only below 10% of IBM’s consulting practice.

After falling with questions during IBM’s profits on Wednesday, Arvind Krishna, IBM’s chief executive, clarified that cancellations were related to USAID cuts. Both Krishna and James Kavanaugh, CFO of IBM, then proceeded to downgrade the potential impact of Doge on the future business of the company.

“We had a handful of contracts, either a job or cancellation and the annual delay of total tips of over $ 30 billion,” Kavanaugh said. “This is like less than $ 100 million delay for a multi -year duration.

IBM’s consulting business made up 34% of the company’s revenue in the first quarter. Krishna added that the advice of the company’s federal government are largely focused on critical areas.

“The overwhelming majority is a critical job – we are actually processing the veterans’ claims,” Krishna said. ‘We help to process the way [General Services Administration] Maybe supply. We help apply payroll systems. I don’t think about it as optional. Now, are there some areas around the edges that could be considered as discreet? Yes. But in our case is the minority of our business, not the majority. ”

Revenue from IBM counseling declined by a total of 2% in the third quarter, according to the results of the company’s first quarter. Revenue from consultation on Q1 was slightly over $ 5 billion.

“Diversity throughout our business puts us well to browse the current climate,” Krishna said. “Our portfolio and execution history reinforce my confidence in this next development chapter. I look forward to sharing our progress as we move through the rest of the year.”
