After our decade, I am dissolved with Spotify.
It’s nothing personal. It’s exactly this Spotify and I have grown up, but we haven’t grown together.
Over the years, I have been tempted to leave Spotify many times. I know that the company faces charges of bad flow payments for artists compared to its competitors, and I have not forgotten that it was a Spotify Podcast platform of Joe Rogan, then exclusively on the platform, to spread misinformation About Covid-19 and other viruses.
I know Spotify is trying Kill the RSS flowa move that Siphone independence by podcasters. And yet, I am embarrassed to say that until recently, these issues have not moved me enough to take the time and energy to explore alternatives to Spotify, a platform I use daily from high school.
Unfortunately it is easy for us to bury our heads in the sand when the technology companies we pay monthly do things that disappoint us. (Yes, I still remember when Netflix He threw my colleagues into the industry, but I also know that I will end up watching the new season of “Love is Blind”.
We do not feel that our subscription makes the difference – after all, Duolingo still earns revenue estimates after a reaction when he said he would replace contractors with AI.
But Spotify finally got to me in a way that is inevitable: when I open the app, I can’t stand the built -in, suffocating dependence on algorithmic recommendations.
There is an overwhelming depiction of visual clutter once it takes to navigate from the Spotify homepage in the music you are looking for. These sentences are front and center when you open the application.
First, I can see an unwanted, full pop-up screen that promotes a new podcast. Then I greet with a 2-by-4 mesh of music grid and podcast suggestions, including new episodes I heard once because they had a visitor I liked, as well as other albums I have in short in the last month or so. Below, there is a sponsorship for a song I would like from an artist I have never heard. When I navigate the search tab, I am asked for an Audiobook recommendation and if I move a little, I see vertical video clips that resemble those belonging to Tiktok.
It is easy to fall on Spotify recommendations, as the application is constantly filled with custom playlists that AI has been curated specifically for you. In Spotify, you should never make decisions – and for some listeners, maybe this is the point. But I noticed that I stopped listening to the music I really wanted to hear, and instead, hugged the music that Spotify told me I wanted to hear.
Without realizing it, I abandoned my delegation.
This does not mean that my moral concerns with Spotify did not affect my choice.
According to January report From the Duetti music funding platform, Spotify, a company worth about $ 140 billion, pays about $ 3 per 1,000 flows. Amazon Music, Apple Music and YouTube paid $ 8.80, $ 6.20 and $ 4.80, respectively, per 1,000 currents in 2024.
Spotify further removed part of its audience in June when CEO Daniel Ek announced that its investment company has led to a round of funding of about $ 700 million for a company that made AI military weapons. Some bands Deerhoof Bulletin; Xiu xiu; King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard pulled their lists from Spotify in protest.
It’s like déjà vu. In 2022, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young pulled their music from Spotify over Joe Rogan’s medical misinformation platform. (The two artists returned to the platform in 2024.)
Maybe it took me so much to leave Spotify, because choosing a flow platform leaves you between a rock and a hard place. But if you are connected to the years of your lists, tools like Soundiiz make it easier for your collection between platforms.
I chose Apple Music, mainly because I got a new iPhone and came with a three -month free trial, which helped me to make it easier for my transition. Also, Apple Music has no loss sound, which was Spotify Promise for nearly five years.
But I can’t tell you with a straight person I have departed from a big, bad Spotify to support the little guy when I have chosen another technological giant.
I also have my moral concerns about Apple – even when I type this on the magic keyboard connected to my MacBook Pro, while my iPhone, Airpods and Apple Watch sit on the other side of my office.
In addition, Apple Tim Cook CEO recently appeared in the White House to gift Donald Trump with a Adapted plate, surname apple, At the top of a 24 -carat gold base, while performing the duty of the trustee to shareholders to keep Apple products without invoices.
At least the Apple Music app is not as overwhelming as Spotify.
