Google is releasing a new AI experimental feature on Google Translate designed to help people practice and learn a new language, the company announced on Tuesday. The translation also wins new living potential to facilitate real -time communication with a person speaking different language.

The new linguistic practice feature is designed for both beginners who are starting to learn conversation skills and advanced speakers looking to brush their vocabulary, the company says. To do this, it creates specialized listening and speech practical sessions that adapt to a user’s skill level and unique learning goals.

With this new feature of linguistic practice, Google undertakes Duolingo, the popular language learning application that uses a gamified approach to help users practice over 40 languages.

To access the feature, you will select the “Practice” option in the Google Translate app. From there, you can set skills and goals level. Google Translate creates custom scenarios where you can either hear conversations and press the words you hear to build understanding or exercise speech. Exercises monitor users’ daily progress, says Google.

The Beta experience is available in the Google Translate app for Android and iOS on Tuesday. The feature is first available for English speakers practicing Spanish and French, as well as for Spanish, French and Portuguese speakers.

Google also introduces users to have back-and-forth conversations with audio and screen translations through the translation application.

“Building our existing experience in live conversation, advanced AI models make us even easier to have a vibrant conversation in more than 70 languages - including Arabic, French, Indians, Korean, Spanish and Tamil,” Google writes in a blog post.

You can press the “Live Translate” option in the Translate app and then select the language you want to translate simply by talking. Then you will hear the translation loudly alongside a copy of your conversation in both languages. The application will translate and change between the two languages you and the other speak.

Google notes that the function can detect pauses, tones and impressions to allow a natural audio conversation.

The feature uses Google’s voice and speech recognition models to isolate sounds, which means you will be able to use live potential in a powerful restaurant or busy airport.

These live translation capabilities are available on Tuesday for users in the US, India and Mexico.

“These updates are made possible by developments in AI and mechanical learning,” Google writes in her blog post. “As we continue to promote the limits of language processing and understanding. We are able to serve a wider range of languages and improve the quality and speed of translations.

Google says people translate about 1 trillion words into translations, search, lens and circle for search. The company believes that these new AI features will help overcome linguistic barriers.
