If you’re a huge fan of an artist, Spotify will give you the chance to book a ticket to their next show. This is the audio platform’s new offering to keep its users engaged and stream more to be fit for top fans.
Spotify didn’t give an exact criteria for being a “real fan,” but said it will use signals like streams, shares and other activity. However, it said the platform will monitor activity to ensure users aren’t playing these stats using bots or AI agents.
“There will be far more superfans than there are seats available on a tour, so not every fan will get an offer. And by only inviting verified fans, we’ll help ensure more tickets go directly to fans instead of scalpers,” Spotify said in a blog post.
Eligible fans will receive an email and in-app notification to purchase two tickets. The company said eligible fans 18 and older in the U.S. will have the opportunity to purchase two tickets during an exclusive window of about one day. It also advised users to keep live event notifications and location settings turned on. Spotify just facilitates the sale of the ticket and users will have to purchase the ticket from a partner’s website.
Spotify said Take and Offer users can buy tickets to any show on the tour and can choose a date, location and seats, availability of which will vary.
Starting this summer, Spotify will reserve tickets for select artists for their new tours. The company said that gradually, the program will expand to tours of different sizes.
The audio platform has added features for discovering live events in the last year, including tracking specific venues and being notified of nearby gigs via a specific playlist. Spotify experimented with direct ticket sales in 2022, but eventually shifted to a partner model. The company said it has facilitated more than $1.5 billion in ticket sales for artists.
