Apple on Thursday offered its annual update on the state of the App Store ecosystem ahead of the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) that starts next week. The tech giant said its App Store facilitated more than $1.4 trillion in developer fees and sales by 2025, up from the $1.3 trillion it reported around this time last year.

The number, which includes all activity conducted through apps on its platform, is meant to represent how the App Store creates economic opportunities for mobile developers that extend beyond sales from in-app purchases. It also helps frame Apple’s part of that business — a commission for in-app purchases of digital goods — as a much smaller part of the overall pie.

As Apple noted in its announcement, 90% of the $1.4 trillion involved transactions where developers did not pay commissions.

Broken down further, the 2025 total included $1.1 trillion in sales of physical goods and services and $149 billion in charges and sales for digital goods. The latter is largely outsourced at 15% to 30%, depending on the type of transaction and the size of the business, and is higher than the $131 billion Apple reported last year. No matter how it’s presented, it’s still a multi-billion dollar market that Apple is getting a piece of.

In addition, Apple said in-app revenue from ads was $151 billion in 2025, up from $150 billion the previous year.

Apple also highlighted that the App Store had over 850 million average weekly users from 175 countries and regions in 2025.

In particular, Apple called out AI apps in particular, noting that 40 of the top 100 apps in 2025 had consumer-facing AI capabilities, and those saw stronger pricing growth than the others in the top 100. it is rumored.

The company is also poised to make its own AI announcements at WWDC, with an expected refresh of Siri and deeper AI integrations into its operating systems.

Apple’s announcement pointed to the App Store’s growth in China as well, adding that over the past six years, charges and sales facilitated by the App Store have more than doubled in the country. Meanwhile, App Store charges and sales more than tripled in the US and Europe. Again, most of this is attributable to physical goods and services such as retail, grocery delivery, travel, travel and more.
