After acquiring Universal Messaging Apps Beeper and Texts.com, WordPress.com Automattic has added Another starting -centered communication in its order: Relationship Management Apply Clay.

The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but Clay has so far raised more than $ 9 million in business funds from investors such as the general catalyst and the Forerunner Ventures. The tool will continue to be supported and later incorporated into other automatic products, such as Beeper.

Clay software, launched in 2021, is a smarter address book or CRM staff, allowing users to organize people they know and keep up with their latest updates by drawing data from services such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Whatsapp and X, as well as books and calendars.

You can use the app to keep up with things you want to know about people such as work changes, relocations, up -to -date bios, recent social positions and much more. Clay also allows you to add notes to direct book entries so you can note how and when you met or their children’s names, for example. A timetable for each entry shows when notes were added, the last time you arrived out and other times you participated.

The application was later built on AI, adding an AI assistant called Grid This allows you to ask questions about your network, such as who you know in a particular company or who you should log in when you visit New York. Beyond that, the bot AI is intended to integrate with your daily work flow.

As part of the takeover, which closed last week, the small group of Clay, including its co -founders Zachary hamed and Matthew achariamParticipates in the other Automattic data section. This group also includes the bomber and Heavyweight.

‘Our mission […] It is to help with relationships and increase the conscience, “Achariam said.” This was always our northern star and all the features […] Strengthen that by bringing these different aspects of relationship management on a platform and a tool. ”

Automattic said it was reasonable to buy clay because of its ability to integrate into the broader ecosystem of the company, which today includes the Global conversation application (a merger of texts.com and bombing acquisitions).

The founders of Clay, meanwhile, have a sense of shared mission with Automattic and estimate that they will continue to develop their application. (Often, smart address book starts are eaten by their buyer and then unfortunately bent.)

“We are very excited about the aspect of this longevity,” Hamed said. “We believe that this should be something beyond, just like any company,” he added.

For clay, the long -term design in Automattic includes integration with beeper and eventually become an identity layer for a variety of different tools.

These plans have not been finalized, however, nor could they commit the automatic commitment to a time frame for this progress. Also, it will not be shared if the clay pricing is due to the change in the future. Currently, the service is a freemium offer, with the Paid plans starting from $ 10 per monthor $ 40 per position, per month for groups.

The founders of Clay said they believe that their values are similar to Automattic, so the agreement made sense.

“One of their main ethics is this idea of open source and the idea that this is one of the most powerful forces of our lives and we tend to agree,” Achariam said.

Clay’s team is also interested in integrating it with other open technologies, such as ActivityPub, used by Mastodon, and in the protocol, used by bluesky.

Clay did not share numbers about his users’ base, but said that his application manages more than 150 million relationships. The app is available in MacOS, Windows, iOS and Web.
