Following his involvement in Mississippi on the new age law of age, the start of social networking adopts a different approach to comply with laws in southern Dakota and Wyoming. Instead of demanding Bluesky to limit access to all non -verified users, users in southern Dakota and Wyoming can verify their ages through Kids Web Services’ (KWS) solution.

The service allows users to choose from multiple methods to verify their ages, which may include payment card, identity document, anonymous face scanning for age assessment or other alternatives. Bluesky uses the same service to comply with the United Kingdom’s Security Act, which has similar requirements.

“We believe that this approach is currently beating the correct balance. Bluesky will remain available to users in these states and we will not need to limit the application for everyone,” the company explained In a blog post Posted on Wednesday.

While Bluesky, like the others, understands that governments are trying to mitigate the dangers for children using the internet, badly written and too broad laws such as Hississippi found it difficult to comply. This law would require BlueKSY to verify all users, not just those who try to access content with limited age and to receive parental consent for users under 18. Its sanctions are also high, up to $ 10,000 per user.

The start previously explained that its small team does not have the resources to make the major technical changes needed to comply with the law of Mississippi. This resulted in his unfortunate decision to be completely removed in the state, leaving greater competitors, such as Meta, to continue their sovereignty.

In comparison, Bluesky said that laws in southern Dakota and Wyoming offer a better solution.

The laws that require age verification are expanding all over the world, not just to the United States. However, given the lack of federal regulations, dozens of American states have taken the matter in their hands and have been introduced Age verification laws Their. But when these laws are aimed at social networks, it may find it difficult to compete with smaller players like Bluesky. Privacy supporters also complain That laws put users at an increased risk of identity theft and are generally invasive.
