Deepfake videos are shockingly well

Researchers from the owner of Tiktok byTedance have proven a new AI system, Omnihuman-1which may create perhaps the most realistic deepfake videos to date.

Deepfaking AI is a commodity. There is no shortage of applications that can introduce someone into a photo or make a person seem to say something they didn’t really say. But most Deepfakes – and video deepfakes in particular – fail to clean the stunning valley. Usually there are some say or obvious sign that AI was involved somewhere.

Not so with Omnihuman-1-at least from the cherry samples, the Byteance team was released.

Here is a fantastic performance Taylor Swift:

Here is a TED conversation that never took place:

And here is a deep Einstein lecture:

According to BYTEDANCE researchers, Omnihuman-1 only needs a single reference and sound image, such as speech or vocals, to create a clip of an arbitrary length. The ratio of the outlet video is adjustable, as is the proportion of the subject’s body – that is, how much of their body looks in the fake material.

He was trained in 19,000 hours of video content from non-announced sources, Omnihuman-1 can also edit existing video-even modify the movements of a person’s limbs. It is really amazing how convincing the result can be.

Given, Omnihuman-1 is not perfect. The ByTedance team says that “low quality” reference images will not deliver the best videos and the system seems to be struggling with some positions. Note the weird gestures with the wine glass in this video:

Still, OMNIHUMAN-1 is easy heads and shoulders over previous Deepfake techniques and can be a sign of the next things. While ByTedance has not released the system, the AI community tends not to last long to reversing engineering models like these.

The consequences are alarming.

Last year, policies deeply spread like a fire all over the world. On Taiwan Election Day, a group associated with the Chinese Communist Party published the ai-created, misleading sound of a politician throwing His support behind a candidate in favor of China. In Moldova, Deepfake videos depicted the country’s president, Maia Sandu, resigned. And in South Africa, a deep tie of rapper Eminem that supports a South African opposition party released before the country’s elections.

Depth are also increasingly used to carry out financial crimes. Consumers are deceived by deep celebrities offering fraudulent investment opportunities while Companies disappear from millions by Deepfake’s deformers. According to RackThe content created by AI contributed to scam losses to more than $ 12 billion in 2023 and could reach $ 40 billion in the US by 2027.

Last February, hundreds in AI community signed an open letter requesting strict paint regulation. In the absence of a law that criminalizes Deepfakes at federal level in the US, more than 10 states have established statutes against AI-Ai-Aid-Eminseeratic. The California Law – currently defined – would be the first to authorize judges to order Deepfakes posters to lower them or possibly deal with monetary sanctions.

Unfortunately, deep representations are difficult to detect. While some social networks and search engines have taken steps to limit their spread, the volume of Deepfake content online continues to grow at a rapid pace.

In May 2024 survey From ID Jumio verification company, 60% of people said they faced a Deepfake in the past year. The seventy -two percent of respondents in the poll said they were worried about being fooled by Deepfakes on a daily basis, while the majority supported legislation to tackle the proliferation of imitations produced by the c.
