In a moonshot move, the AI search engine embarrassed to buy Chrome from Google for $ 34.5 billion cash in an unwanted offer, Reported ReutersAnd embarrassment confirmed to TechCrunch.

The embarrassment tells TC that the terms of the supply include a commitment to maintain the underlying Chrome engine, chrome, open source and continue to invest in it. Perplexity offer includes a promise to invest $ 3 billion in the open source project.

The embarrassment also promises not to change the default users of Chrome users, including the default search engine. That is, embarrassment promises to leave Google as the search engine instead of making its own choice with AI.

Google was unable to approach for comments. TechCrunch will inform the article if the company answers.

This offer comes following the Justice Ministry’s proposal in March that Google was forced to sell Chrome, after a judge decided that the technological giant had acted illegally to maintain a monopoly on the electronic search. Google has not agreed to sell Chrome and has promised to fight the decision.

A spokesman for the embarrassment believes that the court will soon set conditions for corrective measures, perhaps later this month. (Google is also struggling in another federal case, where the judge ruled her unlawfully monopolized Adtech, and DOJ suggests that Google be forced to assign two of Adtech’s products or otherwise dismantle her advertising activities.)

When Doj first suggested to Google to assign Chrome, both Openai and Embarrassment expressed interest in buying it. Since Chrome is the dominant browser, with 68% marketshare According to the statcounter, If the court has to be sold the Chrome, no doubt that others worldwide would like to offer a bid as well.

Interestingly, DuckDuckGo’s opponent’s CEO has testified in April that Chrome could be worth “over $ 50 billion” Bloomberg reported at that time. If Purplexity’s offer succeeds, it could be regarded as an agreement.

Still, this offer for Chrome is much more than embarrassment has been drawn from investors and more than the current starting valuation. The embarrassment has increased about $ 1.5 billion to date, Pitchbook estimates, including a round of $ 100 million that increased last month that valued it to $ 18 billion, Bloomberg reported.

Meanwhile, embarrassment last month began its own browser, called Comet, in its attempt to develop AI search operation without having to serve its customers through a browser, especially one that belongs to Google’s main opponent.

And, incidentally, last month, embarrassment also made an offer to merge with Tiktok.
