Bedrock Robotics, an autonomous start of vehicle technology founded by veterans of Waymo and Department, works quietly for more than a year. Now, it breaks the cover with a $ 80 million funding round from Eclipse and 8VC investors.

Bedrock’s robotics focuses on the development of a self-guiding kit that can be rebuilt in construction vehicles and other construction sites, According to the company. The announcement confirms some of TechCrunch’s reports in May. Bedrock “upgrades existing fleets with sensors, calculates intelligence that understands the project goals, adapts to the changing conditions and performs around the clock” According to a publication on the blog written by co -founder and Managing Director Boris Sofman.

Sofman has previously led Waymo’s truck self-guiding program. But he is perhaps the best known for his role as co -founder and CEO of Anki Robotics, who made the popular Consumer Robot Cozmo and closed in 2019. Other co -founders include Waymo Veterans Kevin Peterson, who is now CTO, Ajay Gummalla, who is a VP Eliaz, who previously worked on Seace and Twilio, is also an engineer.

The company was unable to approach for comments. TechCrunch will update this article with new details as soon as Bedrock answers.

Bedrock is the last company to direct engineers who are experienced in robotics, autonomy and AI to the environment off the road. Several autonomous vehicles have appeared in recent years with the aim of implementing self-guidance systems in off-road environments, such as construction, mining, industrial spaces and even defense.

Earlier this week, Pronto, a San Francisco-based start-up, which has developed a self-guidance system designed for transport trucks and other off-road vehicles used in construction and mining areas, were acquired Safeai. Other newly established companies playing in the fragmented and wide area of off -road autonomy include robotic Kodiak, Polymath robotics, Seattle -based Seattle Overland aiNew Brunswick, based on Canada Potentialand more established companies like Forterra.

Bedrock said it focuses on construction sites and testing Arkansas, Arizona, Texas and California with four companies: Sundt Construction, Zachry Construction Corporation, Champion Prep Inc. and Capitol Aggregates Inc.
