Facebook announced On Tuesday that all videos on its platform will soon be shared as cylinders, regardless of their length or orientation. Until now, users have been able to share both video and wheels. The company also renames the “Video” tab to its “Reels” tab. The update won’t change what videos are recommended to you, Facebook says.

In the coming months, users should not choose between the uploading of a video or a cylinder, as they will automatically share as a cylinder. In addition, the Facebook cylinders will not be bound by length or form restrictions. (Currently, cylinders on Facebook can only be 90 seconds long.)

The idea behind the changes is to rationalize the form of video sharing on the social network. It will not be the first time that a platform post-owned platform has done it, as Instagram started automatically turning new video posts under 15 minutes into cylinders in 2022.

“Previously, you will upload a video to feed or post a cylinder using different creative flows and tools for each form,” Facebook explained to a blog position. “Now, we bring these experiences along with a simplified publication flow that gives you access to even more creative tools.

Change is likely to upset some users as it can cause some challenges.

For example, it could be annoying to post a horizontal video if uploaded to a vertical form of cylinders. In addition, users may not want to see longer videos with small ones.

As part of the change, the default user settings will now be the same for flow and wheels. When users start publishing rollers after the change, they will be asked to confirm their audience regulation to determine who can see their wheels: everyone, their friends or a selected group of people.

After updating, Facebook says it will remain a place for all types of video content, whether short, long or alive.

The company says it will gradually develop changes worldwide in the coming months.
