Google has announced new features for Wear OS 6 on Google I/O 2025 today, giving the operating system a design makeover with 3 expressive material, the design language the company presented earlier this month.
Google has released the Wear OS 6 programmer, based on Android 16, for testing on Tuesday.
With Wear OS 6, Google is trying to make applications look more coherent, so applications will adopt the default system font. In addition, the dynamic theme library will adjust the color of your application or the tile to match the color shape of the watal face to pixel watches.
The main promise of the new design platform is to allow developers to create better adaptation to applications along with seamless transitions. The company releases a design line of design for developers together with Figma design files.
In addition, Google releases Protolayout Libraries for developers with extensive color schemes, typography and shapes for more dynamic applications.
To match the circular appearance of a Wear OS 6 watch, Google introduces a three -tile tile layout with a title slot, a main content slot and a slot below that would make a consistent appearance on different size screens.
The company also adds recently designed accessories, including buttons, progress indicators and rolling indicators, to better fit into circular watch screens. Developers can display collapse components for rolling in different ways. For example, accessories can be reduced when they are near the top or bottom of a watch screen.

The Wear OS 6 adds ways to change the appearance of a clock person through moving state transitions, from the environment to interactive, as well as photo watch faces. In addition, there is now a new API to build watch shopping.

Google adds an API Credentalmanager to wear operating system, starting with Pixel watches on Wear OS 5.1, which will allow Passkey to be identified through the clock. Wear OS 5.1 in a pixel also gets richer media control elements that allow users to move quickly or return podcasts. In addition, compatible applications will also receive a new menu for the playlist and controls, including Shuffle, “Like” and Repeat.
