Here Are Applications Struggling To Make 'tiktok For Bluesky'

The possible ban on the US Tiktok has triggered a development of growth in the open social community of web. There are several new applications that could one day serve as a Tiktok replacement for those who favor the open source, the Decentralized Bluesky Social Network and the technology that authorizes it, the AT protocol.

Although Tiktok’s ban is currently pause, as President Trump gave the parent company from Tettance a 75 -day extension to negotiate an agreement, the fact that the government was able to remove Tiktok in the first place has users to worry about her future. In the meantime, creators and small businesses are emphasized on how the loss of Tiktok could affect their income.

Creating a “Tiktok for Bluesky”

One solution that emerges to tackle the problem is Bluesky, a decentralized social network of open source, where you can choose your own server and algorithm and customize moderation controls to your needs. In addition, if you ever decide to change servers, you can move your account easily without losing your username, friends or posts. You can still “run your own bluesky” Set up a personal data server or relay.

Designed for a future web, Bluesky allows people to take control of their personal data and social activity by Big Tech – an effort also supported by the open social ecosystem called Fediverse, which runs on a different protocol and includes Applications like Mastodon and others.

There are now several new projects that are ongoing to bring a video experience to Bluesky, be it a Bluesky customer video or as a completely new application based on the protocol used by Bluesky.

Below are some of the video applications at various stages of development that focus on the power supply of Bluesky users.

Sharp

Built by Berlin developer Sebastian Vogelsang, who previously started the blues -clients app Skeets, Sharp It is an upcoming app that will focus on videos posted on Bluesky Social Network. Similar to Instagram alternative flashes, which is also in the projects, Bluescreen is quickly built thanks to Vogelsang’s ability to reuse some of the same code from Skeets.

Like the flashes, Bluescreen will offer a first bluesky experience, as it filters current Bluesky flows and lists for video content, while allowing downloads. Because it is built on the Bluesky network, your videos will also appear on your profile in the official bluesky application and people’s comments and the other commitment to these videos will appear in the bluescreen app.

Vogelsang created the first Bluesky prototype in less than two hours, She saysand since then he has published look of the Bluescreen account app in Bluesky as it is further sophisticated.

The app has a set of interaction buttons similar to those that Tiktok has, including sympathies, comments, savings/bookmarks and others.

Reversion

Reversion It represents a greater effort to build a Tiktok type app that is addressed to Bluesky users, but unlike other efforts, it is not just a mattress or filter at the top of the existing Bluesky social network. Instead, Reelo develops its own autonomous application in the AT protocol. This means that reelo will benefit from the same type of transparency and control of your data as in bluesky, but will be free from building limitations above bluesky directly.

This allows Reelo to support more features, including larger videos up to three minutes, special effects, music library and sounds and later, alive. Users will be able to post directly the video content in the app. As the company explains in a position in Bluesky, it does for a “richer, more custom video experience” compared to other Bluesky -based applications, such as the opponent of the skylight, for example.

However, building its own application in the protocol instead of creating an application that is just a layer in the bluesky itself means a longer period of growth. Reelo expects the front and rear end to be completed by the end of February with a launch on March 20, after an initial test period.

Like most of the development applications, Reelo looks very much like Tiktok, with a vertical video flow and ways to like, comment and sharing on the right side of the screen.

Skylight

The team behind Skylight is working to build an alternative to Tiktok, after Mark Cuban said he is interested in supporting possible newly established businesses in this area.

The group behind the app includes co -founders based on Seattle Victoria (“Tori”) whiteWho has one background in building Customized Websites and Applications and React Developer Reed harmeyer. The founders are marketing skylight as “in the Tiktok protocol”, which is technically correct because Bluesky himself runs in the protocol.

However, with the manufacture of a skylight as a layer over the existing bluesky platform, the application runs on restrictions.

Bluesky’s social network restricts videos to up to 60 seconds and 50MB in size. In other words, if Skylight wants to add support for larger videos or other features, it should wait for Bluesky to change its own guidelines or develop its own dedicated protocol -based application. (The founders of Skylight denied an interview, so it is not clear what it looks like their long -term map.)

Skylight has an advantage of species, as the video focusing on the video is already on Beta tests on iOS and Android, allowing the first adopters to try it before its public release.

Applications include preferences, following, comments and profile pages. Video uploads are still in the projects.

Video for bluesky

Recently started in the App Store, the generally named Video for bluesky It is another application built over Bluesky itself. This new application comes a courtesy of “Mszpro”, also known as Hoshida Takiyoshi, indie Japanese programmer.

Takiyoshi has always loved experimentation, having built about 60 applications to date, including the Sorasns App that offers combined access to decentralized Mastodon, Bluesky, Misskey and Firefish networks.

Like some of the others, Bluesky videos allow you to browse videos published on the Bluesky Social Network with vertically scrolling in a Tiktok -like -like -like user environment.

The app also features user profiles, built -in searching, sequence buttons and its own local timetable “for you” with a tender video as well as ways to see other videos of people following or any custom supplies. In addition, the application is designed with an algorithm that will learn your interests over time, says the developer.

His recent updates have added support for other features such as alerts and a new composer Post focusing on video uploads, among others.

With a one -off “Pro” unlocked in -app market, users can access post -analysis information and watch videos from a custom timetable.

Soon, it will add NSFW filtering, a video record, style filters, shots, bookmarks and more.

The videos for the bluesky The application is only for iOS, but if there is enough user demand, the developer will consider making an Android version.

“Bluesky is still a relatively new platform, but its well -documented protocol facilitates Indie developers like me to incorporate new features,” Hoshida notes. “Unlike central social media, the Bluesky API does not require app manufacturers to register for an account of a programmer who helps more people jump and start building immediately. And of course, as an open source, the Developers can easily consider the code to see how to interact with various API features. “

Later, the developer plans to work in other social applications, including one for the Bluesky that focuses on the photos and a Fediverse news reader.

Surf of flipboard

While the newest surf of Flipboard application is more than just a video battery, the app recently added a video flow of its own, as Bluesky added the custom video flow.

Surf Initially it focused on video posts from Bluesky video flow and others that included the hashtag #skytok “, but aims to personalize the end to the end user in future developments. The latter would differentiate it from Bluesky video flow and will made more interesting for each individual user.

Bluesky video flow is available in the Surf app, where people can also create their own custom flows to watch all sorts of positions throughout open social fabric, including Bluesky, Mastodon, RSS and much more.

Surf is still in private beta tests but a listing list is available for people interested.

Canceled: bluesky reels

On 2/1/24, Merry said he had abandoned the project. Initial information is below:

Bluesky Rel (of website not yet alive) is another project that sees the ability to replace Tiktok on the market. Developed by Craig MerryThe customer will only support videos as well as basic user interactions. Over time, support could be included for other personal data servers other than his own bluesky.

The content of the application comes from the bluesky itself, although the goal is to add more features that Bluesky does not have.

“My main goal is to build an easy way for people to create elaborate feed – with content that can be moderately moderate – as is the moderation in Reddit,” Merry explains.

Was informed after the publication to mention which projects have been canceled since.
