Openai’s co -founder, Ilya Sutskever, says he enters the role of CEO in Safe supervisionThe start of AI launched in 2024. In a position on X, Sutskever confirmed on Thursday that Daniel Gross, co -founder and chief executive of the start, departed from the company from June 29.

The announcement follows weeks of reference that Meta Mark Zuckerberg CEO was in advanced talks to hire Gross, as well as his long -term investment partner, a former CEO of GitHub Nat Friedman. At one point, Zuckerberg tried to get all the safe supernatural, a startup that is recently estimated at $ 32 billion. Sutskever also addressed these reports.

“You may have heard rumors about the companies they want to get. We are flattered by their attention, but they focus on seeing our work,” Sutskever said. “We have the calculation, we have the team and we know what to do. Together we will continue to build safe supervision.”

I sent the following message to our team and investors:
–

As you know, Daniel Gross’s time with us is over and since June 29th is not an official part of the SSI. We are grateful for his first contributions to the company and wish him well to the next …

– Ilya sutskever (@ilyasut) July 3, 2025

Of course, the departure of Gross can ask questions about startup. If Safe Superintelligence was close to the goal of a pioneering technology, as described-why the co-founder of the license to start something new, seemingly in Meta?

Specifically, the Safe Superintelligence describes itself as the “First SSI Lab” of the World, which means that the company does not have other products or ambitions out of growth, well, safe supervision. This is the name, this is the product, that’s all the thing. disappearance of CEO Sam Altman.

In the meantime, it seems likely that Meta Superintelligence Labs will develop technology that authorizes many company products. In Zuckerberg’s note Announcing the new unit, he referred to Meta’s know -how in building and growing products reaching billions of people and said early Meta victories had at AI Wearables.

This means that Gross, who previously led AI teams to Apple, after the iPhone manufacturer acquired its start, could have a more intimate role in Meta if it participates. Zuckerberg has also surpassed some top researchers from Openai and Google Deepmind to complete his new AI team.

However, Sutskever may have its hands full of Safe Superintelligence CEO. While holding previous high-level positions, such as Openai’s lead scientist, CEO’s role can happen with new challenges-such as the increase in new capital by investors and the hiring of top talents. Sutskever notes in his position that he will continue to oversee the Safe Superintelligence technical team.
