Mastodon, the open source, the decentralized social network that offers an alternative to the threads of Elon Musk’s X and Meta are launch Some updates with the release of Mastodon 4.4 from Tuesday.

Specifically, the application takes the first steps to apply a change that will bring it to the same level as other networks, but it can also affect users’ behavior: it prepares to integrate the offer positions or what Twitter used to call tweets.

This type of repost allows users to quote another person’s posting and then add their own two cents and comments over it. On Twitter, now called x, the addition of the feature led to a culture “rap“Where users will violate another person, reporting a post and responding to snark or offensive humor. Some claimed that while Dunking made Twitter fun, that led to more negativity on the platform instead of encouraging conversations or healthy discussions.

However, the application of Mastodon for the Post Quote aims to apply the feature in a way that will limit its ability to be used for hatred and harassment.

As The company explained earlier this yearIt will achieve this by allowing users to check if their content can be reported and even allow users to withdraw their positions from the reported framework at any time. In addition, users will receive alerts when someone mentions their positions.

But positions that are not fully mentioned with Mastodon 4.4.

Instead, the organization releases the code that supports the appearance of tenders that will allow users to see excerpts from compatible Fediverse platforms, including future Mastodon releases.

Users will not really be able to report posts until the Mastodon 4.5 version is released this year.

Version 4.4 brings more changes designed to improve other areas, including profiles, navigation, lists, media checks and manager features.

A new “Feature in My Profile” option will allow you to present what you want to promote, like all your posts with a particular hashtag or other accounts – think of the profiles you find interesting or accounts you perform for your business, brand or side work.

Mastodon will now display your nails at the top of your profile in a carousel. Because the application allows users to transfer up to five posts, you had to move very much in the past if you just wanted to see more recent content in someone’s profile.

There is also a new profile widget showing how many of the people you follow follow the person whose profile you see.

It is also easier now to add and remove users to lists both directly from your profiles and your followers and followers.

Version 4.4 also updates Mastodon’s mass media playback program with a new design: Play and Pauling Buttons are more central and easier to click and we get hotkeys for searching, volume control and full screen.

On the mobile, you can double the photos or press the photos to enlarge and get out of size and close a growth image, you can break, similar to your inherent application application. There is also a new reminder to add Alt-Text to images, which helps people with visual impairments use better applications.

In the meantime, the mobile site now imitates inherent mobile applications, with action buttons in a toolbar and more consistent navigation on all platforms.

Elsewhere, the “Exploration” section has been renamed “Trend”, and the sidebar controls have been organized into three sections: one for the main navigation buttons, another for diligent content (such as lists, bookmarks and favorites) and a third for other elements.

For new users, onboarding has shrunk in a two -step process from the previous four -step process, hoping to deal with concerns that it is very complicated to start Mastodon.

Server managers have access to New legal compliance featuressuch as managing the terms of service, the offer of translations of server rules in different languages, and the option of defining a minimum age requirement for new
users.

Changes follow many other updates on social network this year, including a decision Create a new non -profit in Europe to be removed from the application run by a person and other extensions in his team. More recently, Mastodon announced Plans of additional services in the form of commercial bids to increase its revenue. The company, for the first time last year, hosted the European Commission Mastodon Branchsuggesting that this could be the direction that is being directed.
