Sam Altman Says Chatgpt Will Soon Allow Erotica For Adult

Openai CEO Sam Altman announced to a Post in x On Tuesday, the company will soon relax some of Chatgpt’s security restrictions, allowing users to answer Chatbot’s more friendly or more “human” and “verified adults” to participate in erotic conversations.

“We made ChatGPT enough to make sure we are careful with mental health problems. We realize that this made it less useful/pleasant to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right,” he said. “In December, as we develop age more fully as part of the ‘treatment of our adult users such as the adult principle, we will allow even more, such as Erotica for verified adults.”

We made ChatGPT enough to make sure we are careful with mental health problems. We realize that this made this less useful/pleasant for many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the subject we wanted to get properly.

Now that we have…

– Sam Altman (@sama) 14 October 2025

The announcement is a remarkable axis from Openai’s monthly effort to tackle the relationships that some mentally unstable users have developed with Chatgpt. Altman appears to be an early victory over these problems, arguing that Openai “was able to mitigate serious mental health problems” around Chatgpt. However, the company has not provided little or no evidence of this and now has pledged the plans for Chatgpt to participate in sexual conversations with users.

Many stories emerged this summer around Chatgpt, namely the GPT-4O model, suggesting that AI Chatbot could lead vulnerable users under the rabbit hole. In one case, Chatgpt seemed to convince a man that he was a genius of mathematics who had to save the world. In another, the parents of one adolescent sued Openai, arguing that Chatgpt encouraged their son’s suicide ideas in the weeks that led to his death.

In response, Openai has released a series of safety features to deal with AI Sycophance: the tendency for an AI Chatbot to embrace users by agreeing with what they are saying, even negative behaviors.

Openai launched the GPT-5 in August, a new AI model with lower liver rates and has a router that can detect users’ behavior. A month later, Openai started security features for minors, including an age prediction system and a way for Parents to check their adolescent chatgpt account. Openai announced the formation of the Tuesday Expert board Mental health professionals to advise the company on prosperity and AI.

Just a few months after these stories have emerged, Openai seems to think that the problems of chatgpt around vulnerable users are under control. It is not clear whether users are still falling under delusional rabies with GPT-5. And while the GPT-4O is no longer the default to the chatgpt, model AI is still available today and is used by thousands of people.

The introduction of Erotica into Chatgpt is unchartered ground for Openai and raises wider concerns about how vulnerable users will interact with new features. While Altman insists that openai is not “use-maxxing” or optimization for commitment, making chatgpt more erotic could definitely attract users.

Allowing chatbots to participate in a romantic or erotic role was an effective commitment strategy for other AI Chatbot providers, such as character. The company has won tens of millions of users, many of whom use high rate chatbots. Character.ai said in 2023 that users went on average Two hours a day talking to his chatbots. The company also faces a lawsuit around how it handles vulnerable users.

Openai is under pressure to increase its users base. While chatgpt is already used by 800 million per week active users, Openai is competing against Google and Meta to manufacture AI -powered consumer products. The company has also raised billions of dollars for a historic infrastructure building, an OpenAI investment must finally return.

While adults are Sure having romantic relationships with AI ChatbotsIt is also quite popular for minors. A new report from the Center for Republic and Technology found that 19% of high school students I had either a romantic relationship with an AI Chatbot, or knows a friend he has.

Altman says Openai will soon allow Erotica for “verified adults”. An Openai spokesman tells TechCrunch that the company will be based on the age-plan system to ensure that the erotic characteristics of ChatGPT are only available to adult users.

As Altman previously wrote in a Blog post, If Openai’s age system incorrectly signifies an adult as a minor, Chatgpt users may need to upload a picture of their identity to the government in Chatgpt to correct it. Altman writes that, although this is a privacy, the company believes it is a “worthy trade”.

It is not clear whether Openai will extend Erotica to the tools of voice, image and video production AI.

Altman claims that Openai also makes ChatGPT more friendly and erotic due to the principle of “Treat Adult Like Alyds”. During last year, Openai has shifted to a more lenient moderation strategy for Chatgpt, allowing the chatbot to be more permissible and to provide fewer denials. In February, Openai promised to represent more political views in Chatgpt and in March, the company was informed the Chatgpt to allow AI created images of hate symbols.

These policies seem to be an attempt to make Chatgpt’s response more popular in a wide variety of users. However, vulnerable Chatgpt users can benefit from the safeguards that limit what it can deal with Chatbot. As Openai struggles towards a billion weekly active users, the intensity between growth and protection of vulnerable users can only increase.

Update 10/14/25 at 4:40 pm PT: This story has been informed to include comments from Openai.
