Sora’s rapid adoption led to several scammers App Store to try to get into practice. Following the launch of the mobile telephony application it only creates for video, the Apple App Store was flooded with imitations that also proclaimed it was “Sora” or “Sora 2”-the latest reference to the underlying video model AI released alongside the mobile app.

These applications somehow made it go through the process of revising the Apple app. In fact they had public lists in the App Store, despite the use of a brand that has a brand from Openai and is well known in the technology industry, even before the application debut.

According to research provided to TechCrunch at our request from the Intelligence App Platform CompetenceThere were more than a dozen “Sora”-Vbranded applications that went live on the App Store after launching the official app. More than half of them were specifically used “Sora 2” in their names. (One of the These were identified by Apple blogger and Pundit, John Gruber, who called it “fraud of the week”).

Many of the applications were not newcomers. Some had lived in the App Store – sometimes using other names – from earlier in the year or even last year. The scammers, who also include those living in Google Play, had seen about 300,000 collective installations to date, with north of 80,000 facilities coming after the official launch of the SORA application. (Since then he announced that the official Sora mobile application has been taken 1 million times for comparison.)

Almost all scammers had been informed immediately after the opening of the Openai Sora application to benefit from the demand and searches of consumer, often changing their name.

It is not clear how these applications were able to slip beyond Apple reviewers. Apple ended up pulling many of them from its App Store, Appfigures said.

From the fraudulent applications, the largest was called “Sora 2 – Ai Video Generator” – an obvious attempt to play the App Store is looking for the word “sora”. He saw more than 50,000 facilities after the start of the official application.

From the time of writing, some sora-branded applications are still alive, despite the possibilities of confusion of consumers. One, “Petreels – Sora for Pets”, however, has only seen a few hundred facilities. Another, the “AI photographic virus: Vi-sora” tries to squeeze the word sora there, but has not gained attraction.

Making a little better is the application using the branding “Sora 2” in its name (Sora 2 – Generator Video AI). Pull north of 6,000 shots and counting.

Collectively, applications earned more than $ 160,000 – decent money taking into account their short life.

Apple was called upon to comment on how Sora-branded applications were able to make them live and if these other Sora-branded applications will be removed. Did not respond before posting.
