Tinder leans to the reputation of applications dating back to surface by starting a new feature that allows subscribers to add their height preferences to their profiles.

After a Reddit user posted a photo From the new height arrangement in the Tinder application, a company spokesman confirmed to TechCrunch that the Discovery setting has begun as a worldwide test.

Tinder Gold and Premium subscribers in the test team will have access to the operation, but not free users, they tell us. In addition, the setting will indicate a preference, instead of acting as a “hard filter”, the company says. This means that it will not exclude or exclude profiles but will update the recommendations.

“We always hear what is more important for Tinder users – and the tasting of paid -height preference is an excellent example of how we build an urgent need, clarity and focus,” said Phil Prry Fry, VP Comms on Tinder, in an online statement. “This is part of a broader effort to help people intentionally connect to Tinder.

While they are usually dated, applications allow users to filter for people with more traditional concerns, such as one’s age or if they want a long -term relationship or children, height adjustment is likely to cause more controversy and concern.

From the rise of online dating, focusing on one’s naturalness – such as their appearance or size – has become a primary factor in determining who is worth a race. Tinder has helped to accelerate this trend thanks to the user interface, which places a great deal of emphasis on examining people’s photos. Other Tinder users often react quickly to these photos with left or right swipes to show interest.

In addition to exposing people’s preferences for conventionally attractive popularity of the dating applications led to a culture where a prejudice to taller men became the rule. Of It is not uncommon to meet profile Where women say they are only looking for races that are at least 6 feet high, for example – even if in real life it would be more flexible for this requirement.

Tinder has even passed the fun in this trend in previous years, such as when he did a April fool day communication that would be present a “height verification” feature in its application. (Many men I didn’t find This particular joke.) The height bias has also been the subject of other parodies, such as when Designer Soren Iverson imagined A version of Tinder that allows men to replace users’ height requirements for an end.

The company may hope that adding a height arrangement could encourage more women to use and pay for the application, which tends to be heavier are dominated by men and in the US and internationally.

The launch of the test follows Tinder Parent Match’s recent profits, which revealed a 5% drop in user payment. Paid subscribers in all Match dating applications decreased to 14.2 million in the first quarter, from 14.9 million users a year ago. The company is in the middle of another CEO transition, with Match Spencer Rascoff CEO running Tinder much later this summer.
