X’s plan to boost revenue by selling unpublished user names at its service begins to form. According to recent changes found in X’s web application, the company creates a “survey handling” process that will allow Verified organizations – Companies and other organizations that already have $ 1,000 per month x – to submit offers to abandoned X -handles. These bids will start at $ 10,000 and may range from over $ 500,000, according to a FAQ discovered in web application.

Updates were the first spotted by Reverse Engineer Nima Owji, who told TechCrunch that he saw the changes to the Web application on Wednesday. The site where organizations could have a handle is not yet alive in the public.

The idea of earning money by selling handles is something X floating before under the property of Elon Musk. The New York Times referenced In January 2023 that the company then called on Twitter, he was thinking of creating an online auction process for bidding.

Musk also has he greatly supported the idea of the release of the X name space for active users, having has already cleaned a number of inactive accounts to the service In May 2023.

In November 2023, Tower also reported that X was Asking for active buyers Who may be interested in acquiring unused handles, but no official announcement was made. X Documentation for Inactive Account States that the company “cannot release inactive usernames right now”, although there were some reports of people who buy usernames in X outside of a formal process.

By allowing companies to officially buy the desired usernames, X could create another revenue flow outside of subscriptions, ads and developers’ access. The move could also encourage other users X to continue to publish if they do not want to become their handle and then go up for sale.

So far, frequently questions describe the answers to a handful of common questions X users may have about the process, including how to start a handling survey, what is the sales process and how the transport will work.

As the still public website explains, interested users will work with an automated support bot to start a search for a username they want to buy and X will respond if the handle is available within three business days. After purchasing the handle, it will be transferred to the new owner within one or two days or may be moved to another account already owned by the business already possessed, the frequent questions.

Discounts may also be available for those who buy multiple handles at the same time, depending on the number and size of the offer, the site notes.

X was asked for comments about his plans on the handles, but he did not answer.
