Users often search for recipes and travel plans on YouTube to find videos related to their queries. Now, the video platform will offer a new tool to meet the needs of these users with the introduction of a Interactive search function with AI which presents step-by-step results along with a combination of text and video.
Through this new Ask YouTube feature, users can ask questions like “plan a 3-day road trip from San Francisco to Santa Barbara” and get step-by-step results that would be a mix of text, short videos, and longer videos instead of just video results. The company says it will display videos and related video segments with titles and channel details to help users discover new creators.
Additionally, users can ask follow-up questions such as “Where can I get good coffee?” and get suggestions in a similar style.
The feature is available to Premium subscribers in the US who are 18 years of age or older. (Interested users should select this experiment via this URL.) Google noted that it is working to make this feature available to non-Premium users as well.

Google has pushed its AI-style search to many surfaces beyond YouTube. The company introduced the AI feature last year, allowing users to ask multi-part and follow-up questions. This year, it also introduced web browsing capabilities and product price exploration for its AI feature. The company also introduced Gemini’s Canvas feature to keep projects in AI mode last month.
With this new feature test on YouTube, Google could later explore showing different kinds of videos and, along with sponsored placements.
