Openai announced on Tuesday the launch of the study, a new Chatgpt feature that aims to help students develop their own critical thinking skills, rather than simply answering answers to questions. With the study function, Chatgpt will ask users to try their understanding and, in some cases, refuse to provide immediate answers unless students deal with the material.

Openai says the study feature is circulating to connect to users to Chatgpt’s Free, Plus, Pro and Team Plans from Tuesday. The company expects to introduce a study to EDU subscribers, which is largely consisting of young people whose school administrator bought a plan for the whole student body in the coming weeks.

Study Mode is Openai’s attempt to address Millions of students using Chatgpt at school. Studies have shown that they use Chatgpt can be a useful teacher For young people, but also Can harm their critical thinking skills. A research document released in June found that People using Chatgpt to write essays have lower brain activity during the process Compared to those who use Google search or nothing.

When Chatgpt started for the first time in 2022, its widespread use in school arrangements triggered fear among teachers, leading to general AI bans in many American school areas. By 2023, Some of these schools have abolished Chatgpt bansAnd teachers across the country came to terms with the fact that Chatgpt would be part of young people’s lives from now on.

Now with the launch of the study operation, Openai hopes to improve ChatGPT as an educational tool and not just an answer machine. Anthropic launched a similar tool for AI Chatbot Claude, called Mearning Mode, in April.

Of course, there are restrictions on how effective the way of studying is. Students can easily go to the normal ChatGpt manner if they just want an answer to a question. Openai Vice President Leah Belsky told TechCrunch in an information that the company does not offer tools for parents or managers to lock students in study mode. However, Belsky said Openai could investigate administrative or parental controls in the future.

This means that a dedicated student will need to use the study function – children really have to want to learn, not only to finish their mission.
