For users, Spotify was a place to consume podcasts created by other creators. The company wants to change that by introducing a personal podcast feature, which uses AI to create podcasts for users based on an idea or custom prompt.

Earlier this month, the company released a GitHub-based command-line tool for Claude Code and Codex that lets users create a podcast and save it to their own Spotify library. The company said that soon users will be able to create podcasts directly in the Spotify app. They can also schedule to create daily or weekly digests on topics of interest to them periodically. In addition, they can also create individual podcasts to understand a topic.

Users can submit a request such as “Share my city’s daily updates and tell me about local concerts by artists I love” or “Help me understand finances in five minutes,” to create a podcast and save it to the library for personal consumption.

Additionally, users can add links, PDFs and text, and choose a custom voice to create podcasts. The company takes a leaf from NotebookLM, the ElevenLabs reader, and the Huxe app from former NotebookLM developers to create personal podcasts on any topic.

Spotify has also released a dedicated desktop app called Studio by Spotify Labs, which can connect to users’ email and calendar to create personalized updates.

In addition, the company now has an AI-powered Q&A feature for Premium mobile users in the US, Sweden and Ireland. With it, users can ask questions about the episode they’re listening to or an idea covered in the podcast to get answers. They can also ask for podcast recommendations on specific topics. The new addition comes after the company released a prompt-based feature for creating podcast playlists in April.

Until now, Spotify has been pushing people to consume more video podcasts. The company said users streaming video podcasts grew 50% year over year. With this release, Spotify wants users to interact more with the app by asking questions about a podcast, similar to Ask YouTube, which Google launched earlier in the week, and creating their own interest-based podcasts.

For podcast creators, Spotify is making the Creator Sponsorship tool available to manage brand partnerships. Additionally, it also adds a way for creators to charge a subscription to unlock exclusive content and experiences. Social platforms like Instagram, Facebookand Snap already offers a similar product to content creators.
